Heart and Hand Assisted Living is a family-owned and operated business located in El Centro, California. Patty McGrew and her daughter, Jennifer Thomason, are actively involved in all areas of the business. Licensed in March 2006, the quality of service and the degree of professionalism of all of the employees has earned Heart and Hand the reputation of being "The place to live".
We employ CNAs as well as home caregivers. Although we are a non-medical facility, every caregiver is well-trained, as well as screened. Each is bonded and insured, and is required to have a Federal and State background check, as well as drug screening, as a condition of employment. In our home we have both Private and Companion rooms available. Situated on 1 acre, the house and gardens are a welcome respite for our Residents. The covered patios offer them the opportunity to dine outside or just relax and enjoy the natural surroundings.

Patty has lived in the Imperial Valley for over 50 years. She majored in Home Economics at Cal Poly, San Luis Obispo, and graduated from San Diego State University with a BA. She has been an active member of the community: Involved with 4-H as a leader and Community leader for 20 years, served on the California Mid-Winter Fair Board for 18 years, three as President. She is currently serving on the Imperial Valley Community Foundation Board.
"Seeing our Residents look forward to each meal is a joy. They plan their own Birthday menu, as well as all of the other holidays we celebrate, from New Year’s Eve, Valentines Day, Fourth of July, and on through Christmas. We even celebrate National Ice Cream Day!" "All of our meals are prepared in our newly remodeled kitchen. We take great pride in our menus and in the fact our recipes are made in house from scratch."
Jennifer McGrew Thomason - Director and Owner
Jennifer is a native of the Imperial Valley. She earned her B.A. from Northern Arizona University in Social Work. She is an active member of the community: serving on the El Centro Regional Medical Center Board of Trustees for 10 years, two as Chairman. In 2001 she founded and guided Alegria Adult Day Health Care in Calexico from a 20 Participant attendance to 184. Upon leaving Alegria she is now managing Heart and Hand full-time. Her experience with hospice, palliative care and generally working with and for the elderly is truly a positive addition to the excellence Heart and Hand offers to the communtiy. She is truly capable of assisting families with their end of life needs.
Jennifer is a member of the El Centro Police Advisory Board, 3 years; Rotary Club of El Centro-Board member 3 years; El Centro Sunsations, Vice President 2 years; 4-H Project Leader 2 years. Both she and Patty are members of the El Centro Chamber of Commerce as well as the Imperial Chamber of Commerce.
